Archaeological site of Olympia

The sanctuary of Zeus in Olympia was established as the most important religious and sporting center of antiquity. It was here that the Olympic Games were born, the most important games of ancient Greece, during which a “sacred truce” prevailed, and hostilities ceased. These games were held every four years in honor of Zeus and have remained an internationally renowned institution from antiquity to the present day.
